Maca and Cacao

Discovering superfoods has vastly improved my mood, energy and outlook on life. They were pivotal in my recovery from a  knee injury that was very slow to heal. Having a bad knee was on my mind 24/7 and as a result, I was starting to get depressed. I believe these 2 superfoods gave me the extra boost that I needed to finally overcome the injury (along with a great physical therapist). These two superfoods also elevated my overall mental, physical and emotion health to a higher level than ever before. Now I don’t go a single day without them!

What are superfoods?

Superfoods are basically foods that are much richer in flavonoids as well as micro and macro nutrients while being low in calories. They nourish your body on a very deep level, boost the immune system, energy, mood, memory, improve overall health, fight illness and slow down aging. Here are the 2 superfoods that I can’t live without…

Maca powder

Maca powder is a root that comes from Peru or Bolivia. It is usually dried and powdered before being exported. When I began to use maca powder, I noticed more energy, stamina and endurance right away. I was able to work harder at my physical therapy exercises and recover faster. As a result, I saw better gains in the muscles around my injured areas. I also experienced a huge sexual and libido boost. Maca powder is my secret weapon!

Pure, Raw Organic Cacao

Yes, cacao is chocolate! It’s not the same thing as it’s roasted and processed relative known as cocoa. And it certainly is not the packaged chocolate you find in the junk food isle. Pure, raw cacao is superfood rich in antioxidants, magnesium, chromium, magnesium, manganese, vitamin C, phosphorus, zinc, copper and much more.

However, the ingredients that get me the most excited are called tryptophan and theobromine. Cacao is rich in tryptophan which plays a critical part in the body’s ability to produce serotonin. Serotonin is the ultimate weapon in the fight against anxiety and depression. Serotonin has the same effect on our brain as the feeling of true love. Theobromine is a mild (non-addictive) stimulant that may trigger the brain to produce more anandamide which accounts for the euphoric sensation some feel when eating chocolate.

While maca powder is my secret weapon for my physical health, cacao is the secret weapon that has me thriving mentally and emotionally. Unlike the unhealthy chocolate we usually eat, cacao doesn’t come with all the calories, sugar and unhealthy side effects. So, add some pure, raw and organic cacao powder to your diet and start feeling the same amazing effects.
